Ask A Broadway Kid
Gemini Quintos
Q - How old are you?
A - 15
Q - What Broadway shows have you been in?
A - Annie, A Christmas Carol, The Wizard of Oz
Q - What is your favorite Broadway show?
A - Tough question...probably AIDA.
Q - How long have you been in The Broadway Kids?
A - This is my 5th year.
Q - What is you favorite song to perform with The Broadway Kids?
A - Seasons of Love, Boy from New York City.
Q - How often do actors/actresses get? new headshots taken?
A - It isn't really taken at a regular basis, basically you get a new headshot when you look significantly different from your current picture.
Q - I'm just wondering how do i get into broadway? because i love to sing and act. i loved to sing and act ever since i was little. so if u could help me i would like that a lot. thank you .jessica
A - hey jessica. it's not easy, but if you work hard and stay commited you can make it. look for an agent to represent you or read the Backstage paper for open calls and other stuff.
Q - Is there any song that could be used for a girls duet?
A - Lots of songs. Two of my favorites are "Miracle"(whitney houston/mariah carey) and "Tell Him" (barbara steisand/celine dion)
Q - I'm about to turn 15 and I'm so sad that I wasn't a part of Brodway Kids. What do you like most about being in Brodway Kids?
A - Besides the performing part? The many great friendships that i've built.
Q - how do you become involved with broadway kids if you love singing?
A - Well, first of all, you have to have at least one broadway credit. After that, check out our website for the next time we're holding auditions
Q - Who is your inspiration in everything that you do?
A - I'd have to say my mom. she's such a strong woman, she's raised and is still raising four kids, and she does everything in her power to make sure that we are all able to do what we love to do.

Q - Do u have any advice for somebody who's trying out for community theatre? Also you are a great inspiration!!! What is one of the best things about acting?
A - Thanks so much! The only advice i have for you is to do your best and be yourself. That's very important. One of my favorite things about acting is in portrying different characters, you get a better understanding of things because you're seeing things in different points of view.
Q - How did you first get started in musical theatre?
A - When i was six, i sang for a talent show at my school and my music teacher heard me and referred me to an agent. I called them up, and they sent me out for things including "A Christams Carol", my first broadway show.
Q - Hey Gemini! I was wondering if you've ever been really nervous before performing? If so, what do you do to try to calm youreself down?Milli*NJ_Pna1_CuTiE* >>
A - Definitely! i've been nervous before many performances, but it always goes away when I'm about to go on stage. I guess its the thrill of performing, it drowns out my nerves.
Q - Have to audition for this thing and sing a song by myself to do it whats a good song to sing to audition?? what song did you use to audition for bway kids??
A - First of all, choose a song that you like and enjoy singing. Make sure that the song is in your range and that the style matches your voice.
For my Broadway Kids audition, I sang "Johnny One Note". It's a really belty, showy song.
Q - Do you still keep in touch with any of the girls from "Annie"? I would like to have your autograph, how i contact you?
A - Although I barely see them anymore, yes, I still keep in touch with my "Annie" girl friends. If you e-mail the broadway kids your adress, I can send you an autograph. Thanx!
Q - -how old were you when you started acting??
A - I was six years old.
Q - Who played on susical the musical?? >>
A - Former Bway Kid Cameron Bowen was in Susical.
Q - Do your friends ever bug you to tell them what it's like being an actor?
A - Alot of my friends are very curious as to what it's like to be in the business, but I'm not bugged by it, I don't mind answering any questions they have.
Q - I dance competively but not a very good singer. How can i improve my singing skills to a higher level??
A - It's great that you're a wonderful dancer. Taking voice lessons from a private teacher is a great way to develop your voice. If that can't be done, join your school or church choir; the more you sing, the more comfortable you'll be with your voice.
Q - I'm 13 years old, and have been a professional actor since age 10. I'd love to be on broadway, but the thing is, I live in the west coast, and my parents aren't too keen on moving to New York. Any suggestions on how I could convince them, and did it take you a long time to convince your parents to live in New York?
A - Wow, I really don't know how to answer your question because I've been living in New York since I was two. However, I can imagine your parents not wanting to move all the way across the country. Be patient with them, and let them know how much you want to do this. Good luck! If anything, you can always move when you turn 18!
Q - -hi gemini! i have two questions for you. are you filipno? and i heard that chris trousdale, greg raposo, and christy ramano were in the broadway kids but they retired. are you friends with them?
A - Yes I am Filipino! I've actually never met Christy Romano, but I'm cool with Greg and Chris
Q - What shows did you see on broadway?
A - Oh God, I don't think I can list all of them. However, the most recent one I saw was "Wicked", the musival about the witches of Oz. I enjoyed it alot.
Q - What is your dream role?-Alison
A - Hi Alison. Tough question. I dont really have a "dream role", I just want to play a part that I enjoy perfroming and that's right for me.
Q - Do you have any siblings, and are any of your family members into musical theater like you?
A -
A - I have one older brother who's 20, and two younger sisters, 8 and 10. My brother is in the Army and doesn't know a thing about musical theatre, but both my sisters were in "Miss Saigon" on Broadway and share my love for musical theatre.
Q - I want to be a broadwaykid.How do I become one?
A - First of all, you have to have at least one Broadway credit. The Broadway Kids hold auditions every now and then; check the website for audition dates/times.
Q - How do you find out about auditions?
A - I have an agent who sends me out for auditions, but if you don't have an agent and want to find out about auditions, you can check out Backstage for open calls and other stuff.
Q - I was wondering how you get an agent because I am very interested in the things u and the Broadway Kids do. It doesn't seem that simple to me. I am a big fan and listen to your music, but i've never actually been in NY because I live all the way down in Asheville, NC. I would lilke to know how to start these things up!
A - Since you live all the way out in North Carolina, it's probably best to start out with some community theatre stuff and maybe work your way up from there. Who knows, maybe someday we'll see you under the big lights!
Q - Since you are filipno, do you speak the language?
A - Yes, I speak Tagalog fluently.
Q - I just love acting but I am always really scared to aduition. I don't know why though. And there are a lot of cool plays I could probably get in to but I'm too scared. Do you have any advice?
A - Breathe. In a situation like this, I don't know what else to tell you but to suck it up and do it! You have to overcome your fear sooner or later, and the sooner the better. Your first few auditions may not go perfectly, but you'll learn from your mistakes and improve. Good luck!
Q - Gemini, your headshot is awesome! How do I get one like it??
A - Thanks! There are adds for photographers all over the place, like online or in Backstage. Find one that you think you'll like and that fits your budget, and check him/her out.
Q - I have been in 10 plays/musicals and it's a lot of fun,i picture it as training for auditioning for broadway. What is your training like?
A - Rehearsals before the opening of a Broadway show is pretty intense. We usually rehearse all day long and over the course of several weeks.
Q - I love to perform, but I haven't gotten ANY rolls yet this year, not even in my school. I was wondering if I could please have some tips on how to have an excellent audition please?
A - If you get really nervous during auditions, try to relax. Trust me, it helps alot, and you can concentrate more on your audition than on what the judges are thinking. Also, be yourself. It's more natural, and alot easier than trying to be someone your not.
Q - I don't have an agent, I have been in many shows, but not ones that I've been paid in. Can If I am good enough, can I become a broadway Kid?
A - In order to become a Broadway Kid, you have to have at least one broadway credit. After that, you're welcome to try out for the Broadway Kids.
Q - What is filipno or the language Tagalog? -Nellie
A - The word "Filipino" describes nationality, and "Tagalog" is the name of the language spoken by native Filipinos.
Q - what parts did you have in annie, a christmas carol, and the wizard of oz? thanks! emily =)
A - In "Annie", I played the orphan Kate and I understudied Molly. In "A Christmas Carol", I played a rich girl, street urchin and Fan (Scrooge's sister) at six yrs. old. I played a munchkin in "The Wizard of Oz".
Q - -i love to sing and dance and i've won all kinds of stuff from competitions and stuff but i am really bad at acting. i really want to try out for this musical and the auditions are in january but i get too embarassed when i'm reading parts of the script from the show at the auditions. do you have any addvice? thanks! emily
A - Congratulations on all of your accomplishments! You may not be used to reading scripts, but try to get more comfortable by reading them in front of the mirror. Don't be embarrased; practice makes perfect!
Q - do you like american idol and american juniors?
A - I did enjoy watching American Idol, but not American Juniors because it was more about the parents than it was about the kids.
Q - What is your favorite song?
A - I have no idea. Honestly. There are so many great songs out there to choose from, it's impossible for me to choose only one favorite.
Q - Hey Gemini!! I am a huge fan of the b-way kids!! i am a huge drama fan and i am currently in Les Miserables at my high school starring as Eponine! I wanted to know what song was your favorite, favorite role to ever play, and what is you favorite broadway musical if you had to choose between les miserabels and annie?? thank you!! bye bye!! ~*Emily*~
A - Thanks and congratulations! Your first question I answered in the previous question. I'd have to say that my favorite role I ever played was in "A Christmas Carol" because I got to play, like, five different parts. It was alot of fun. If I had to choose between Les Miserables and Annie, I would probably say Les Miz.
Q - Can you give me some suggestions for an agent?

I aspire to one day go to Broadway...Got any advice with how to deal with those around you, who don't completely believe in you? Thanks!
A - Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed our performance! As for those people who don't believe in you, don't mind them, all you need to belive in you is yourself. Go for it, and good luck!
Q - which part did you play in "Annie?"
A - I played the orphan Kate and i understudied Molly.
